It seems that lines are an inevitability at any of the Orlando theme parks unless you visit at a super quiet time of the year, or stump up the extra cash for Universal Express Plus, Seaworld Quick Queue or the Busch Quick Queue if you’re travelling a little further out from your Orlando base.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Attractions – The Big Ones

The Disney’s Hollywood Studios lines build up very quickly at certain attractions due to the nature of the park. It has a few blockbuster “must-do” rides with a whole host of shows intermingled that can accommodate bigger audiences. As a consequence, the blockbuster rides tend to get busy real quick.

I would consider the top four attractions in descending order of popularity as Toy Story Mania, Rock n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror and Star Tours. Just to show you how popular these rides are, just look at the following table that shows the expected line time and the time for the next available fastpass.

These are real stats albeit taken on a busy day. The lines for Toy Story Mania and Rock n Roller Coaster or really scary and the later in the day you leave it to visit these attractions, the longer you are going to be in that line. Just look at the wait and fastpass ticket times for Toy Story Mania. If you visit this attraction later in the day you may be in line for two hours or have to forego a fastpass ticket for eight hours. So what would I do?

Assuming that you want to do all these attractions, head straight for Toy Story Mania and get one of those illusive Fastpasses. On a busy day, I can guarantee there will be no fastpass tickets left for this ride.

What I would do next is head down towards Rock n Roller and Tower of Terror. The good news is that these two rides are pretty much right next to each other. Go get in the Rock n Roller coaster line and enjoy the ride, it’s really cool.

If you’ve struck lucky the line for Tower of Terror will either be bearable, or you’ll be within your time window to get another fastpass. So, either ride Tower of Terror or get a fastpass for the ride and move on.

Next up is either Toy Story Mania or Star Tours. If your fastpass window hasn’t opened for Toy Story Mania, head over to Star Tours and ride, otherwise go over to TSM and use that fastpass and then head back to Star Tours.

OK, sounds stressful… but now you can take the rest of the park at your leisure. Whatever you do, remember to be flexible, make use of fastpasses and have fun.
