Walkie Talkies instead of Mobiles

To save on mobile phone charges while in the parks, a lot of people apparently use walkie talkies - a set with a good enough range to use in a park can be picked up for around $25 from Walmart while you're over there.

I hadn't thought of this until I read that several people do it - it makes sense - if a walkie talkie got dropped / damaged / stolen on the trip it wouldn't matter so much as if your expensive mobile complete with sim card and all your friends phone numbers got nicked.

I agree this is a much better idea than mobiles,
especially if you have teenagers with you who probably want a bit of freedom or even large groups.

Its a pretty good idea as long as your range is not to far, although a lot of walkie talkies say '2 mile' range - that optimal and in reality its a lot, lot less than that, but the concept is definately sound

Well, if you're all on the same phone company the charges should be free anyways. But walkie talkies are a pretty good deal considering how cheap they are.
