If you’re a fan of Shrek, or the many 4D style rides that exist within the Orlando theme parks, then Shrek 4D is not to be missed.
Shrek 4D is located within the Production Central area, opposite Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast, so people do tend to hit the attraction as the park opens.
Just to set the scene, Shrek 4D is set sometime in between the first and second Shrek movie (after Farquaad was eaten by the dragon). The pre-show for the attraction is hosted in a room themed like Lord Farquaad’s dungeon. Cages holding Pinocchio and the Three Little Pigs adorn the room, as well as a couple of large screens. The story begins with the spirit (remember he’s been eaten) of Farquaad demanding to know the whereabouts of Shrek and Princess Fiona’s honeymoon hideout. Farquaad “tortures” Shrek’s sidekicks, but it’s the Gingerbread Man who blurts out the heroes location. The Gingerbread man urges the crowd to run away, but with the pre-show over the doors open to the main theater. Don’t forget you’re 3D specs so you can enjoy the ride in Ogrevision.
Once seated, the show begins and we join Shrek and Fiona on there way to the Honeymoon Hotel. Invariably things don’t quite go to plan when Shrek decided to take a shortcut through the Forbidden Forest and Fiona is captured by Farquaad’s henchmen. So we now join Shrek in his mission to re-capture Princess Fiona from the ghostly Farquaad.
A great touch is that the seats are synchonized with the movie, so if you see a bump on the screen, you’re going to feel it in your pants. When you add that together with the usual 3D effect you’d expect (look out for the 3D pieces when you smash through the Gingerbread house), voices of the original actors, comical one-liners and the excellent plot, it makes this Shrek 4D an unmissable attraction.
